Western Union appoints Ryan as communications chief

HONG KONG - Former HSBC Asia Pacific head of corporate communications John Ryan (pictured) has taken on a newly created role as director of Asia Pacific corporate communications at Western Union.

Based in Western Union’s regional hub in Hong Kong, Ryan will report directly to Angela Heng, regional VP, Asia Pacific corporate affairs and has responsibility for regional media relations strategy as well as the company’s charitable arm The Western Union Foundation.

Commenting on the appointment, Angela Heng said: “John’s experience in financial services and his journalistic insights will be invaluable as Western Union expands its collaboration with other financial institutions and engages in the global dialogue on migration.”

Western Union’s workforce in Asia Pacific has grown from 35 to 200 in just three years. There are 75 in the Hong Kong office. Its direct competition comes from Moneygram.
