The wins follow recent efforts by Weber Shandwick to increase the relevance of its offering to Chinese clients and to attract new domestic business in China.
COFCO chose to partner with the IPG agency after a four-round pitch calling for proposals for corporate responsibility initiatives based on its sponsorship of the Beijing Olympics. Inner Mongolia Yili Group, having selected Weber Shandwick after a pitch that included 20 roster agencies, is seeking to ensure the integration of its Olympic sponsorship into its overall communication programme.
Shanghai Mobile, meanwhile, is reportedly seeking increased brand awareness as a sponsor of the city’s 2010 World Expo.
Weber Shandwick’s domestic client business in China is led by Sonny Yang, who was hired as the agency’s vice president last year.
