Weber Shandwick hires Jye Smith to lead digital in Australia

SYDNEY - Weber Shandwick has appointed Jye Smith (pictured) as digital strategist in Australia, assuming duties previously held by Matthew Gain, who departed the agency to join Edelman.

Jye Smith, Weber Shandwick Australia's digital head
Smith, whose appointment is effective 17 May, is charged with developing digital strategies for clients across all practice groups in the market. He will report to Weber Shandwick Australia’s managing director, Emma Jane Granleese.

Smith was previously the head of social media at digital boutique Switched On Media. Prior to that role, he was a marketing executive for CBS Interactive, responsible for developing strategies, partnerships and products around mobile and video.

The appointment comes a month and a half after Weber Shandwick's regional head of digital, Matthew Gain, announced he would depart the agency to lead Edelman's digital operations in Australia.

At the time, Gain’s hire was the latest move by Edelman to raid its rivals to staff its new Australian operations.

Gain spent less than a year at Weber Shandwick.
