In a bid to bring to light the user habits of the Taiwanese
Internet market, Iamasia recently released figures showing that 31 per
cent of the country's total population is now online.
With users averaging 25 years of age and brandishing monthly household
incomes of NT$88,000 (US$2,840) Taiwan's Netizens are
younger and richer than their non-'Net-savvy counterparts.
According to Iamasia 71 per cent of those accessing the Internet did so
at home, with 40 per cent accessing it in school, 28 per cent in the
office and 7 per cent in cyber-cafes.
Encouragingly for the ecommerce sector, 10 per cent of all Taiwan's
Internet users shopped on the 'Net, boasting the largest population of
women on the 'Net in Greater China - 45 per cent of all users.
Renren.com aims for broader user focus In a bid to bolster its content
offerings and services, Renren.com has hooked up with content
syndication giant iSyndicate Inc, Taiwanese publisher China Times.com,
online Chinese information services provider Wisers Information Limited
and key PRC online sports news provider Shawei.
The partnerships aim to hike-up user appeal and solidify the link
between Renren.com's vertical channels.
Male users remain in pole position on the 'Net ACNielsen NetRatings has
discovered that male users still outweigh their female counterparts on
the 'Net.
On average, Singapore's male user segment spent 7.23 hours a month
online, while their female counterparts spent a mere four and a half
hours of surf time.
Once again Yahoo! ranked top in the Lion City, garnering 247,882 unique
users, with Msn.com and Pacfusion.com falling behind with 221,436 and
184,827 unique users respectively in May.
