Walt Disney appoints Starcom for media in India

MUMBAI - Walt Disney India has appointed Starcom as its media agency partner in the country following a pitch.

The account is estimated at US$6.5 million. According to a statement, the Publicis Groupe media network will manage Walt Disney’s media strategy and investment across all lines of business, including broadcasting, studio entertainment and home entertainment across all media formats.

The account will be handled out of Starcom's Mumbai office. Business director Girish Upadhyay will lead the account, reporting to Nikhil Rangnekar.

Rangnekar, executive director, India (West) for Starcom, said: ”Walt Disney is a strategic client partner for us in several markets around the world and we are happy to have been selected in India.”

He added: “We hope to leverage all the proprietary applications and competencies at our disposal to provide them with superior understanding of their consumers and strategic, business building solutions.”

Following a multi-agency pitch, Contract Advertising has also retained Disney’s creative business in India.

In Australia, Starcom and Carat are currently in a head-to-head pitch for Disney’s A$25 million (US$22 million) media planning and buying business.

Separately, Hong Kong Disneyland recently confirmed Ogilvy & Mather and M&C Saatchi as its new agencies of record.
