Walker quits Aegis but keeps SPI link

Kim Walker has resigned from Aegis Media, where he was spearheading the regional construction of the group's digital and one-to-one offering Isobar.

Walker, who joined Aegis in 2000 after it acquired SPI, a media consulting firm he set up in Japan, said he wanted to return to his entrepreneurial roots.

He has reactivated his chairmanship of Aprais, an agency remuneration firm he founded, and plans to pursue other interests from his Singapore base later this year, after completing his six-month notice period.

"I have decided to go back on an entrepreneurial route once again," he said. He retains a link with Aegis as a director of SPI. Walker's responsibilities as Isobar president will be taken up by Aegis Media's Asia-Pacific CEO David Liu, who will steer the ongoing development of Isobar from its current four offices to an anticipated eight by the end of the year.

Once the network has been established, Aegis intends to reappoint a permanent head to oversee regional business and co-ordinate best practice between the offices.

Walker's 20-year career includes stints at full service agencies in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo, where he spent nine years. He moved to Singapore at the end of 2003 as then chief operating office for Carat Asia Pacific.
