VW shelves China pitch at last minute

BEIJING - Sources are blaming internal politics for Volkswagen's eleventh-hour decision to cancel a creative review in China.

Publicis, DDB and incumbent DMG were informed hours before their presentations of the decision, capping an extraordinary pitch process, even by local market standards.

Volkswagen briefed agencies at the end of last week, asking for proposals by Sunday - two days later - and presentations on Monday. By Saturday night, the pitch had been shelved.

Meanwhile, VW has shortlisted four agencies for its creative review in Singapore. According to sources, the final round will take place in mid-December.

The brief is to conceptualise a campaign for a car launch and VW will be looking to use the execution of this project to trial the selected agency, said a source. Incumbent DDB Singapore declined to comment.
