VIEWPOINT: A small fish in China's very big pond

Asia Television, Hong Kong's underdog station, has been given an enviable opportunity to plan for a better future. That's the theory at least, now that the station with a chequered past has secured landing rights to China's wealthiest province, well ahead of rival broadcaster Television Broadcasts. But being given the key doesn't mean ATV will easily unlock the riches of South China's lucrative advertising market. Not only must ATV contend with rogue cable operators hijacking its revenue, but the Pearl River Delta is one of China's most fragmented television markets.

Even with the landing rights, ATV remains a small fish in a very big pond.
