Vejarano to depart Microsoft for BBase

HONG KONG - Microsoft's regional entertainment and devices division is on the hunt for a new marketing chief after the departure of Andres Vejarano after five years with the tech giant.

The unit, which is led primarily by Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console, remains locked in a fierce battle for leadership of the Asian market against Sony’s PlayStation and the newer Nintendo Wii.

However, Vejarano noted that his decision to leave was purely personal. “There’s a lot of momentum behind Xbox and the subscription base continues to grow,” he said. “There is new competition (from Wii), but the whole market has expanded.

Vejarano joins local fashion company BBase in the role of business development director, with a brief to grow its global footprint. “I wanted to diversify beyond marketing into leading a company into greater growth,” he said.
