The board of directors at VAC Media are looking at their options, said a source, based on access to multinational clients, training and resources.
“We have a powerful name in the Vietnamese market which is unlikely to change — as long as clients recognise that we’re part of a global company. Clients know we have strong relationships with media vendors, which are even more important in a country where media are state-owned.”
Talks with WPP — the number one buyer in Vietnam — are believed to have taken place during chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell’s recent visit to the region, although a senior GroupM source denied the news. Omnicom was unavailable for comment as Media went to press.
VAC Media already has a relationship with Omnicom through its sister agency DDB Vietnam Advertising, and Omnicom Media’s buying is done through VAC.
