UPS taps golfers in ESS show deal

UPS has trained its sights on the region's affluent males, partnering with ESPN Star Sports (ESS) to present the network's Golf Focus show.

The weekly show, which has been airing for six months, will be sponsored by UPS from March 15 onwards. Special UPS content is being developed for inclusion both inside and outside the show, along with online and mobile.

"The only people that watch golf are the people that play golf and they are very upscale in Asia," said ESS SVP of advertising sales, Charles Less. "(Through this) you can incorporate branding into the programme, unlike a standard broadcast sponsorship."

UPS Golf Tips vignettes will run across ESPN and Star Sports, specifically scheduled around The Masters, the US Open and the British Open. A microsite, www.espnstar.com, carries these vignettes, while UPS banner ads will also run on the main website.

The show runs on Star Sports Asia, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India.
