UPI hails success of first seminar in Asia

HONG KONG More than 200 delegates from 22 countries and regions gathered in Hong Kong last month to attend the inaugural Asia-Pacific Open Seminar by UFI, the global exhibitions association.

The two-day event was hosted by the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and addressed the theme of 'The Key Role of Visitors & Innovative IT Solutions for Your Exhibitions Business'. Paul Woodward, regional manager of UFI Asia/Pacific, said: "We are delighted with the response to the seminar. This was due to a strong speakers' programme with topics of real interest to managers in the exhibitions industry." Well-received topics included 'The Role of Value-added Services in Visitor Attraction and Retention'; 'How Technology Can Keep Your Exhibitions Alive All-year Long'; and 'How to Exploit Your Database Successfully'. Woodward, who is also principal of the Business Strategies Group, said the turnout was a clear indication of the industry's health in Asia at present. He said: "It is also a testament to the attractiveness of the host city, Hong Kong, and its convenient location." Woodward said feedback from delegates was encouraging, with 92 per cent indicating the seminar met their objectives. He said: "We will have to work hard next year to match the expectations raised by this year's event." He added: "We have had a wide range of suggestions for the topic of our planned 2007 Asia/Pacific seminar. "We hope delegates can walk away with new ideas for their business that they can use as soon as they get back to the office." UFI members can obtain copies of the presentations from UFI. Nonmembers who attended the seminar will receive a CD-Rom of all the presentations. For other purchases, please contact UFI at www.ufi.org.
