NEW DELHI: Universal McCann has won ICI India's estimated US$1.3 million account from incumbent RH Swamy/BBDO, which has retained the

creative brief.

It battled with Starcom India, MindShare, Lowe Lintas & Partners'

Initiative Media and DDB Needham associate Mudra Communications for the

assignment.

With India's most popular festival, Diwali, around the corner, ICI is

looking to create an impact through media to push sales during this

crucial time of the year. India's paint market is estimated to generate

$90 million in annual sales.

ICI India's general manager for marketing, Hina Nagarajan, credited the

win on the effort shown by the agency to tackle key issues in the paint

market and the efficiency of its media delivery mechanism.

ICI's appointment is the second media agency shift to occur in India's

paint industry after market leader Asian Paints replaced MindShare with

Carat. India's decorative paint segment is valued at close to $63

million, but consumption of paint is lower than other Asian markets.
