Universal McCann names Kumar to lead Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR - Universal McCann has installed its regional head of communications planning, Prashant Kumar (pictured), as CEO of its Malaysian office.

Kumar, who was previously GM of UM Malaysia before leading the agency’s regional planning unit, will take over from Gaurav Bhasin, who had managed both the Malaysian and Singapore office.

Bhasin will now focus exclusively on Singapore’s operations from August.

The development marks the first management change since UM regional president Jeff Cressall too office.

“It’s clear that our success and effectiveness both as a business and for our clients lies in the quality of our people,” said Cressall. “Prashant has been highly successful in growing our communications planning capabilities regionally and locally, as well as supporting our business development. His appointment will propel the agency.”

“There is a strong team with a string of new business and awards success over time, as well as strong client relationships. The Malaysia market is also critical to the success of Universal McCann in the region.”

Cressall added he was already considering options in replacing Kumar in the regional communications planning role and would announce a replacement at a later date.
