The appointment follows Unilever's decision to award the Philippines ice cream brand Selecta to DDB last month (Media, 25 April) and is in line with the global Unilever ice cream agency alignment, which saw DDB and Lowe take the US$300 million business from McCann in January.
According to Joseph Tan, country head of Lowe Indonesia, Lowe will handle Unilever’s “impulse” products such as stick ice-cream brands, Cornetto and Magnum, while DDB takes charge over “in-home” products including Carte D’Or and Vienneta.
In Asia, both networks are competing for Unilever's ice cream business, as the company will be appointing only one network to oversee impulse and in-home products.
Both networks’ offices in Singapore and Malaysia are expected to present their credentials over the coming weeks.
