Underwater resort to target incentive groups

FIJI An underwater resort is being planned for Fiji where guests can stay in suites resting next to a coral reef, 15 metres below the surface.

The world's first underwater resort, Poseidon Mystery Island, is under construction in the US and will open for business in 2008. The concept is being sold to small corporate groups as the ultimate incentive travel reward. It comes as a six-night package, where two nights will be spent in the underwater hotel. Plans for the resort also include a revolving restaurant on the lagoon floor, where guests who are spending their days in the 28 over-water and 21 beachfront villas can continue to experience life underwater. Access to the underwater suites is via an elevator from the surface. Developers say there will be no problems with pressure as the atmosphere in the suites will be identical to that on the surface. www.poseidonresorts.com
