UM Philippines chief to retire

MANILA - Universal McCann Philippines' EVP and managing director, Venus Navalta (pictured) is set to retire at the end of August and will be replaced by Dino Laurena, the current SVP and co-managing partner of Harrison Communications Philippines.

Navalta has been with Universal McCann Philippines for almost 20 years, and assumed the lead role in 1999. Under her guidance, the IPG firm grew to be the largest media agency in the Philippines, and one of the network’s largest globally.

Navalta said: “I have enjoyed my time in UM, and am pleased with the achievements of my team in Philippines, but it is time to devote time to my personal life, especially to my family.”

Laurena has spent the most part of his 25-year advertising career with McCann in the Philippines. He has also held account management roles with Dentsu, Young & Rubicam, Lowe, Saatchi & Saatchi as well as JWT.

His experience includes managing Harrison’s account for Globe Telecoms, which is also a Universal McCann client.

Henry Tajer, president of Universal McCann Asia-Pacific, said that Laurena was the ideal replacement for Venus “with his extensive background and proven track record of success as an advertising professional”.
