Led by regional general manager Miles Upton, the Singapore office, which has been operational since 1 April, aims to deliver innovative product development capabilities to the Asia market. It already has a client base in Australia, Japan and Singapore, which the firm plans to build on.
Upton has spent the past 15 years working in Asia in senior business development roles. The Singapore office will offer product development and technology consulting expertise across a range of markets.
Founded 52 years ago, Cambridge Consultants develops products, creates and licenses intellectual property, and provides business consultancy in technology critical issues for clients worldwide. It has offices in Cambridge in the UK and Boston in the US.
Its client portfolio comes from a diverse range of industries, including medical technology, industrial and consumer products, transport, energy, cleantech and wireless communications, such as Coors Brewers, Philips, Armour (internet radio) and satellite telecommunications firm Iridium Communications.
Philips Medical Systems, for example, wanted to launch a patient telemetry system to monitor ECG readings in hospital, without wires. The agency hence created a system design that allowed for a modular approach to make use of a mixture of industry standard and proprietary systems that minimise the cost of development and maintenance of the complete system.
Alan Richardson, CEO of Cambridge Consultants, noted that its reaction to the global recession was to invest in new talent and its facilities so that the firm can deliver solutions faster.
Upton noted that with Cambridge Consultants’ aim to double its revenue in the near future and to grow the firm into a truly global entity, the expansion into Asia is needed.
“Singapore is an easy place to set up a company,” he told Campaign Asia-Pacific. “It will service brands from the whole region, excluding India. We expect the Singapore office to have 40 employees over the next three years as we grow our business and we will then work out where our next expansion is.”
