Mindhshare Malaysia won the business after a four-way pitch that involved Zenith Media, PHD and incumbent MEC. In Singapore, MEC retained the business after a pitch process that involved representatives from most of the agency networks and began in November 2008.
“Ultimately we found that MEC demonstrated the strongest ability to marry consumer insight with media and industry knowledge that will help us to create effective media campaigns,” said Nicholas Yong, managing director of UIP Singapore & Malaysia.
MEC has been handling UIP’s media in Singapore for more than eight years and in Malaysia for years.
Connie Chan, managing director of MEC Singapore, said, “While we welcomed the opportunity to review our relationship, we are delighted that UIP has chosen to retain us as their agency-of-record. We look forward to working with them to create integrated and engaging campaigns that compel viewers to experience their fantastic films at the cinema”. Earlier this year, MEC won the UIP media business in Taiwan.
In both Singapore and Malaysia the pitch process ran from November 2008 to April 2009, involving a written submission and presentations.
UIP is one of the world’s leading film distribution companies and is jointly owned by Paramount and Universal Pictures.
