Turner boosts presence in Japan

TOKYO - Turner Broadcasting System has bolstered its presence in Japan through the acquisition of Secom's subsidiary Japan Image Communications (JIC), expanding its network by five channels.

Turner Broadcasting’s Japanese subsidiary, Japan Entertainment Network (JEN), will now include JIC’s Tabi Channel and MONDO21, which air original programmes, as well as Nittere Plus, Act On TV, and Fox Life.

The channels will continue to run across cable, satellite and IPTV platforms in Japan.

According to the company, Turner aims to reach a wider demographic through its programming and become more locally focused to broaden its business and branding opportunities in the market.

Secom has managed JIC since 1997, the same year JEN was created to provide a platform for Cartoon Network Japan. JEN claims to reach 6.5 million Japanese homes.
