True offers cash in new Thailand telco promotion

The newly-rebranded Thai telco, True is offering 200 savings account prizes each worth 10,000 baht (US$245) in its latest promotion, dubbed 'Call 2547'.

The promotion is open only to Thai ID card holders and callers do not have to be a True phone account holder, according to True managing director Chitchai Nantapat. To take part, callers have to call 2547 from either True's Orange mobile phone service, a home or public phone and type in their 13-digit ID card numbers when prompted. The campaign will run until June. In another development, signalling a new competitive round in Thailand's intense telecom marketing battle, Advanced Info Service (AIS) launched its much-hyped 'push-to-talk' phones, targeting mainly the corporate market. The push-to-talk phone is a combination of handset and walkie-talkie device, allowing people to talk with other users in a pre-defined group at just the push of a button. AIS' rival Total Access Communication (DTAC) also has a push-to-talk service prepared, but has yet to launch it commercially. AIS is offering the service on its nationwide high-speed data transmission General Packet Radio Service network and on Nokia push-to-talk 5140 models. AIS is charging a monthly fee, starting at 100 baht per user.
