Tribal GM moves to Omnicom in Hong Kong

SINGAPORE - Tribal DDB Singapore general manager Christer Eriksson (pictured) is leaving the agency to take on a regional creative and strategic role for the Omnicom network in Hong Kong.

Eriksson departs after nine months at Tribal DDB Singapore, which he joined after a brief stint at Starcom IP in September last year.

The details of his position in Hong Kong have yet to be finalised, but he is expected to take on a creative and strategy role for regional clients, such as McDonald’s, Philips and Volkswagen.

In the meantime, Eriksson will also be acting general manager for Tribal DDB Hong Kong while Patrick Tam is on sabbatical. He will report to Sarah Brennan, general manager of operations for DDB Hong Kong, and the president and managing partner of Tribal DDB Asia-Pacific, Amanda King.

David Tang, president and CEO of DDB Singapore said: “I have mixed feelings about Christer moving on, but it’s a good transfer for him.”

Replacing him is Jeff Cheong, who will assume Eriksson’s managerial duties as head of the agency and retain his ECD role.

Meanwhile, Tribal DDB has appointed new staff in Singapore. Alan Leong joins the Singapore office as associate creative director from Vibrantstyle, his own interactive shop, while Ciaran Lyons takes on a role as associate director of technology from Australian digital agency Visual Jazz. Jimmy Yar rejoins as business director after a period away from the agency freelancing, while Chris Lim moves over from DDB as Tribal DDB’s head of copy.

News of Eriksson’s move to Hong Kong coincides with Tribal Singapore’s capture of a communications assignment for the next Singapore Airshow.

Tribal’s brief is to promote the event internationally using a combination of print and digital media in the run-up to its launch in 2010. The show will provide a venue at which S$12 billion (US$8.8 billion) in business transactions is expected to be made.
