TNZ partners with Hill & Knowlton to raise profile in China

SHANGHAI - Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) has transferred its China public relations account to Hill & Knowlton from independent domestic agency @, without a pitch.

The move comes a year after TNZ partnered with the Shanghai-based firm, having called a pitch that included Hill & Knowlton and two other agencies.

The WPP agency will reportedly assist TNZ in promoting the country as a leisure and business destination on the mainland and in Hong Kong by supporting its global marketing campaign and enhancing its relations with international media through its International Media Programme.

A spokesperson for Hill & Knowlton added another priority for TNZ would be its Opinion Leader Programme, an initiative designed to generate endorsement for the country among high profile celebrities.

The spokesperson was unable to disclose the value of the account for the agency.

In a statement, David Zhao, managing director of the firm’s Shanghai office, commented that the China market presented “huge potential” for tourism to New Zealand.

China is ranked fourth among the largest exporters of tourism to New Zealand, having overtaken Japan in February this year.
