Time magazine came away the biggest winner at the Society of

Publishers in Asia (SOPA) awards for editorial excellence.

In a star-studded evening in Hong Kong attended by the who's who of the

Asia-Pacific news industry, Time picked up seven of the 14 awards on

offer.

They included Excellence in Design, Best Front Cover, Best News

Photography, Excellence in writing and Best Interactive Publication.

Action Asia won two awards; it was the publication with the second

biggest number of awards.

It took home the Best Feature Photography and Best Editorial.

Newsweek, Fortune, Finance Asia, Reader's Digest and the International

Herald Tribune each won one award.

It was the second year the SOPA awards have been held to honour

publications that promote freedom of speech with editorial

excellence.

Legislative Councillor Emily Lau said in a keynote speech that too many

of Hong Kong's key decision makers did not acknowledge the fact that

business and politics were intertwined when they should be separate.

This remains the impending threat to Hong Kong's freedom of speech, she

said.
