The Hoffman Agency closes in Taiwan

TAIPEI - The Hoffman Agency shut its doors in Taiwan this week after four years on the island, with former staff setting up an independent agency, BMA Global Services.

“BMA will be The Hoffman Agency’s partner in Taiwan” and “will support our clients and business prospects’ PR campaigns in Taiwan,” said Chris Tang (pictured), managing director, The Hoffman Agency, Asia Pacific.

Tang said The Hoffman Agency is closing the Taiwan office to focus on markets of high growth potential where it has already established a strong competitive advantage.

“Taiwan, from my perspective, as an IT PR market, has been marginalised as the majority of the activities have been shifted to mainland China and highly commoditised in the sense that the price war is fierce,” said Tang.

Hoffman offered its core team members the opportunity to relocate to other markets, such as Beijing and Shanghai, which have enjoyed growth over the last six months.

Instead they decided to stay in Taiwan. Belinda Ma, former head of Hoffman in Taiwan, is forming BMA Global Services.

Ma is a Taiwan industry veteran whose previous posts included Weber Shandwick and Edelman and work with consumer, CE, FMCG and healthcare clients.

Hoffman Taiwan won the Asia-Pacific PR Award, Technology Campaign of the Year in 2008, for successfully launching iGoogle in Taiwan.
