THE ALL-ASIA PRIME TIME TV RATINGS GUIDE: Dramas tops Asian TV polls

Dramas received the highest ratings in more countries in

Asia-Pacific than any other category of television programming,

according to research figures supplied by ACNielsen.

In this, the first All Asia Prime Time TV Ratings Guide published by

MEDIA, dramas topped the popularity polls in five of the 13 markets

surveyed - Hong Kong, Taiwan, Guangzhou, shanghai and the

Philippines.

Media directors said this was not surprising as most of the Asian

markets have fairly advanced local programming capabilities to produce

interesting and vivid shows which the audience can relate to.

Other categories which topped the polls were mythologies and feature

films in India, movies in Singapore, an action series in Indonesia, a

variety entertainment show in Taiwan and foreign films in Vietnam.

Interestingly, the weather report followed by the news proved to be the

most popular programmes in Beijing.

The Guide shows the top five prime time shows broadcast by terrestrial

channels in each of the 13 markets surveyed by ACNielsen via its

Peoplemeter panels.

For each market, programme names and typesare shown alongwith the name

of the broadcasting channel.

There are also reach, rating and age breakdowns.
