Thailand seeks PR agency for tourism brief

BANGKOK - Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), which has been grappling to protect Thailand's image as a tourist destination after the latest round of protests, is looking for a public relations agency.

A Government spokesperson said that although it has not announced a pitch yet, it is already in discussions with PR agencies. TAT’s PR is currently handled in-house.

The drive to improve its communications skills follows the latest bout of violence to cripple the country. Earlier this month, the Thai Government called a state of emergency after the Asean summit was derailed by protestors. The Government body has launched a microsite called Thailand Tourism Update to provide the latest information on the situation. The site includes a series of videos in which foreign tourists talk about their experiences as protests take place.
