Thai government cracks down on 'junk' food ads

BANGKOK - The Thai government has announced regulations to limit airtime for 'junk' food ads during children's programmes.

From early next year, airtime for snack and fast food commercials during children’s programming will be limited to 12 minutes per hour – no more than 10 minutes is allocated for fast food ads while two minutes are reserved for promoting healthy food.

The move comes two months after Malaysia passed a law prohibiting fast food companies from sponsoring children’s programmes (Media, 27 June).
