Telco rolls out taxi broadband service

HONG KONG - SmarTone-Vodafone has launched what is believed to be the world's first free mobile broadband service in taxis in Hong Kong.

The service, which goes live today, will allow passengers to access the web for free in 100 taxicabs.

Unlike WiFi hotspots, the service offers consumers a ‘private’ broadband line.

“This let’s them enjoy the freedom, convenience and privacy provided by a truly wireless broadband service on the move,” said Douglas Li, CEO of SmarTone-Vodafone (pictured).

The company has also set up workstations at key shopping areas in the city, allowing consumers to try the new service.
