The new service targets people aged over 25 who are heavy IDD users, from both the family and business sectors.
Hutchison Global Communications chief executive officer Peter Wong said no IDD charges will be involved for 3 users making video calls to overseas Vfone users.
Special offers have been provided to 3 customers and an advertising campaign, including TV commercials and print ads, was kicked off.
The campaign, developed by local shop Market Catalyst, demonstrates the powerful applications of the product and the core benefits that it brings to customers.
Market Catalyst chief operating officer Davie Mok said: "We focused on targeting well-defined, frequent IDD users and presented them with the revolutionary idea that there are no IDD charges with Vfone. The key is to create immediate appeal for subscribing to the service. In addition, we stressed simplicity in terms of installation to project a user-friendly image of a sophisticated gadget."
3 Hong Kong managing director Agnes Nardi said the linking of 3 and Vfone ("3V connection") would help speed development of mobile phone services in Hong Kong.
"The '3V' concept presents the idea of visionary video and value. It adds extra value to the existing 3G mobile phone, as people can conduct remote surveillance through Vfone anytime and anywhere, make video calls to 3 users and no IDD costs will be involved for video calls between 3 and overseas Vfone users," Nardi said.
