A source close to the discussions indicated that the talks are still in exploratory stages and suggested it could take as long as 24 to 30 months for the media launch to materialise. The proposed media agency is believed to involve a tie-up with two or three parties.
Another industry source suggested that TBWA was most likely talking to clients to find if such a media agency model has potential. According to this source, TBWA is currently focusing on Government-linked accounts and would only launch the agency after lining up several media briefs.
Zulhisham Ayob was previously a director at Pakar Media, a media agency that hit the headlines last year amid corruption allegations involving a former director-general of Tourism Malaysia.
When approached by Media, Ayob denied being in discussions with TBWA saying he was currently focusing his efforts on developing a business in Jakarta. A TBWA spokesperson declined to comment.
Ayob’s partner Mirza Mohamed Tariq Beg who was managing director of Pakar Media, left the agency in March this year.
