Tangalooma hosts APCS event

The 2007 Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) was held over four days in Brisbane, Australia. The delegates were then taken on a day trip to conclude the event.

It was an opportunity to educate international delegates on the facilities available along
the Brisbane River and Moreton Island, where Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort is based.
Guests included the mayors of Wellington, New Zealand; Singapore; and Suva, Fiji.

Challenges
Due to the resort’s location, marquee transportation and setup prior to the event was of great
importance. Tangalooma faced this challenge by thoroughly planning the layout and
structure of the marquee, while liaising with the suppliers constantly throughout the course of the APCS. A strong communication and logistical plan enabled Tangalooma to provide this unique dining experience for the delegates.

To assist with transportation logistics, Tangalooma arranged private transfers from Brisbane’s
South Bank Parklands and Portside Wharf aboard the Tangalooma Jet, which can transfer 340 passengers.

Tangalooma’s representatives were in regular contact with the appropriate council
representatives to ensure the journey to and from Tangalooma was smooth and effortless.

Execution
Guests were transferred across Moreton Bay by two of Tangalooma’s high-speed catamarans from Brisbane’s South Bank and Portside Wharf.
Upon arrival at Tangalooma Resort, the delegates participated in activities including whale
watching on Moreton Bay and sand tobogganing down 70m-high sand dunes on Moreton Island.
An early evening barbecue dinner followed while delegates watched the sunset across the
Bay from a beachfront marquee.

The highlight of the trip then got underway with delegates involved in the nightly handfeeding
of a pod of wild bottlenose dolphins.

Verdict
Penny Limbach, conference and events manager of Tangalooma, says: “It was an honour to partake in this programme and showcase Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort as a unique event
destination for the summit’s international delegates.
“All had a fantastic time and we hope to welcome then back in the not too distant future.”
