TA promotes Nee to GM of North Asia

HONG KONG Tourism Australia has appointed a new head for its north Asian operations in a major restructuring of the organisation in Asia.

Johnny Nee has been promoted to regional general manager of North Asia, covering mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Maggie White, regional manager for South Asia, has been offered a Sydney-based position that will cover India, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Greig McAllan has left the organisation after 20 years of service. Nee said: "The aim of the new set up is to be more efficient for end users in Asia. We see north Asia as a standalone region although we still have country managers in each destination. "There will still be the same number of people on the ground in each country to service the vast Asian market." Nee said one of the main challenges facing TA's business tourism department is to highlight the destination's aspirational value to prospective CEI groups as being worth more than just a financial incentive. TAhas also announced that the next Team Australia Business Events Exhibition (TABEE) will move from Bangkok to Shanghai in March 2007. Nee said: "Shanghai presents a new opportunity for TA to further increase the knowledge of Australian CEI products in Asian markets. "The new location will also further demonstrate Australia's appeal to incentive business from emerging markets such as China." For more information, email btasia@tourism australia.com
