Sydney turns off lights for Earth Hour

SYDNEY - More than 2.2 million Sydney consumers turned off their lights for one hour over the weekend as part of Earth Hour, a joint initiative between Leo Burnett and WWF, aimed at raising awareness of global warming.

According to Burnett figures, the city registered a 10.2 per cent drop in energy used on Saturday night, far exceeding the original target of five per cent.

More than 2,000 brands and business also took part, with some of the biggest names including Coca-Cola and McDonald’s.
