STB pitches new regional TV drive

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Tourism Board has been holding talks with regional broadcasters with a view to creating programming to showcase upcoming events such as the SingTel Formula 1 Grand Prix, Youth Olympics and the launch of integrated resorts.

Broadcasters including CNN, National Geographic and BBC World have been involved in “an audition of ideas" as Singapore braces itself for 2010, when casino complexes Sands and Sentosa Resorts World and the Youth Olympics come to town.

Winnie Pua, STB's director of brand management, said: "2010 will be a milestone in Singapore's development as a place people want to visit. We hope that broadcasters will help us ride this wave with some interesting programming ideas."

STB has received proposals from local advertisers, such as the integrated resorts, looking at ways to partner the body in the run up to 2010. Multi-advertiser pan-regional programming could be a viable marketing option, said Pua.

Meanwhile, STB is reaching the conclusion of a pitch for its digital marketing business, with a final round involving OgilvyOne and XM.

Pua revealed that STB is looking to increase its digital marketing spent by 10 per cent this year. A result is expected next month.
