SINGAPORE The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has injected more than US$7million into its industry to ensure the destination's critical growth strategies are maintained during the current global economic and political climate.
Part of the assistance package is directed at the conference, exhibition and incentive (CEI) sector to encourage event
organisers to continue choosing Singapore as a CEI destination and maintain an active calendar of events throughout next year.
This will include increased sponsorship and marketing funds.
"Singapore has to continue looking for new CEI business and one concern for companies is how to manage costs," STB assistant director exhibitions & conventions Ms Elaine Ang said.
"Therefore, as part of the initiative we will offer rebates for industry members when they attend trade shows with us.
"For example, should companies participate at AIME in Melbourne next year they will receive
rebates of 75% on participation fees.
"This rebate rate will also apply to all STB-led foreign missions, travel marts and trade shows," Ms Ang added.
The first rebate was
offered to companies
participating at this year's World Travel Market in London.
Furthermore, in a bid to assist companies in the industry with cash flow, schedules will be revised to allow for increased disbursements during the project period.
The package is likely to continue until the end of next year, Ms Ang said.
However, although total visitor arrivals for 2002 are projected to decrease by 3-5%, Singapore's tourism industry is expecting the number to reach seven million.
