StarHub readies for city-state's numbers war

SINGAPORE - StarHub, Singapore's second largest telco, is using innovation and freedom as themes in campaigns targeting businesses and the public as mobile number portability hits the city-state.

Developed by DDB Singapore, the first - the ‘Your tomorrow starts here today’ campaign is aimed at reassuring business owners that it is capable of meeting their communication needs, whether through business broadband or voice and data services.

A collage of empty office cubicles and unused equipment in the campaign’s television spot is intended to portray the ease and mobility

that companies enjoy when hooked up to the telco’s business solution plans.

Iris Wee, StarHub’s head of marketing, commented: “We understand what businesses are like today and our solutions are up to the task of helping them meet their challenges head-on.”

“We decided not to advertise in the conventional way. Rather, by highlighting how businesses have changed in the modern world, we hope to show that StarHub is a truly forward-looking and innovative brand.”
David Tang, president and CEO of DDB Singapore, added: “It’s about business the way customers see it: smarter, faster and just that bit more personable.

“We’ve avoided the stuffy business talk; after all, technology has made business life more innovative and creative.” The telco has launched its first campaign in preparation for the impending battle between the Lion City’s big telco firms as full number portability kicks in this week.

Following M1’s ‘You deserve better’ campaign, StarHub’s ‘Freedom’ campaign brings back Sparky, the dog mascot who first appeared in the telco’s advertising when it launched in 2000.

Users will be able to try out the telco’s services without a contract and send out unlimited text messages.
Wee added: “Our latest campaign is a chance for users to see that the grass is, in fact, greener on our side.”
