StarHub powers up with football rights

SINGAPORE - A fortnight after SingTel debuted its pay-TV service Mio TV, StarHub has upped the anti with the launch of a dedicated English Premier League (EPL) channel.

The 24-hour Football Channel will launch eight months after StarHub wrested the the EPL rights from incumbent ESPN-Star Sports (Media, 30 November).

Two newly-created channels — Goal TV 1 and Goal TV 2 — will screen ‘live’ matches from the French, Dutch and Scottish football leagues, as well as programming and footages from football clubs Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona. The three channels are part of StarHub’s Sports Group digital cable package.

For non-cable subscribers, StarHub will offer up to seven EPL matches on its Play Video portal to rent at S$3 (US$2) per match, hours after the matches have aired.
