StarHub clinches EPL rights

SINGAPORE - StarHub has scored exclusive rights to the next three seasons of the English Premier League (EPL), following a tight face-off against SingTel and six-year incumbent ESPN Star Sports.

The news will likely come as a disappointment to SingTel, which has recently announced trial runs of its pay-TV service just one month earlier.

Meanwhile, ESPN Star Sports will finish broadcasting the season in July 2007, when StarHub will take over. It is estimated that 80 per cent of cable subscribers in Singapore currently tune in to the EPL, with local cable penetration hovering between 30 to 40 per cent.
