StarHub broadens base with new offer

StarHub has broadened the audience for its cable TV offering in Singapore with a service that allows non-subscribers to buy channels on a pay-per-use basis.

The launch comes after the company also announced a partnership with Nagravision to provide viewers with the ability to buy individual channels, as it ramps up its competitive offering ahead of a mooted pay-TV launch by SingTel.

"We are consistently bringing new content and services to our customers, and we will continue to do so regardless of the number and type of competitors," said StarHub VP for cable TV services Patrick Lim. "Our focus has always been on our customers, and on delivering the best value proposition we can to the market."

The company's FlexiWatch service, which requires the purchase of a set-top box, enables viewers to buy a 'FlexiPack' of Chinese and kids channels - including MTV Mandarin, TVBS Asia, Disney Channel and Star Chinese Movies - for a minimum of three consecutive days, at S$3.30 (US$2) per day, up to a maximum of 25 consecutive days.

"We do not have immediate plans to offer channels and content of other genres via FlexiWatch," said Lim, adding that it remains an option.
