Star strengthens India operations with promotions

NEW DELHI: Star India has promoted Sameer Nair to chief operating officer and appointed Ravina Raj Kohli as president of Star News as it moves to bolster its position in India.

Nair was previously executive vice-president of content and communications, with programming responsibility for all Star channels in the country.

Since joining the group in 1994, he had been successful in elevating the flagship Hindi entertainment channel Star Plus to lead position, ahead of Zee TV, which is part of India's leading private network, and Sony Entertainment Television.

Kohli was previously with Kerry Packer's Channel Nine and Sony Entertainment Television as chief executive officer.

Both Nair and Kohli report to Star India's chief executive officer, Peter Mukherjea.
