Star back on Philippine TV after settling row

MANILA: The Philippines' cable operators, SkyCable, Home Cable and PCC have reached an agreement with Star to settle outstanding payment to the regional satellite broadcaster - a move allowing them to resume broadcasting five major Star channels.

Star pulled the plug on Sky and Home in October last year for non-payment of past due subscription fees, which were then estimated at 160 million pesos (about US$3.2 million). As a result of the disconnection, a significant number of Sky and Home subscribers, particularly sports fans, defected to Destiny Cable which still featured Star channels' such as ESPN and Star Sports

The new agreement brings ESPN, Star Sports, Star Movies, National Geographic Channel and Star World back into Sky and Home cable systems.

"We are pleased to have resolved the matter enabling us to move forward in a positive and friendly manner to reach multi-year terms for the carriage of our channels across the Philippines, said Bruce Churchill, Star's president and chief operating officer.

The distribution platform of Sky, Home and PCC account for about 75 per cent of households in the Philippines.
