Sri Lanka air taxi boost for inland CEI destinations

Colombo SriLankan Airlines is expanding its unique domestic air taxi service in outlying provincial areas.

Ian Robinson, SriLankan Airlines Manager Australia and New Zealand, said: "Not only have the air taxis eliminated the requirement for lengthy road-trips to many key regional locations, they have also introduced the possibility of day trips." "These were previously impossible and deliver new sightseeing opportunities above the Sri Lankan highlands," he said. The aircraft have also opened up the interior of Sri Lanka, which was unaffected by the December 26 tsunami, and offers enormous opportunities for tourism growth. Sri Lanka has identified the meetings and incentives market as a major sector for potential growth to help restore the country's travel industry.
