Squabbling must stop for India to grow

HONG KONG - Squabbling between broadcasters, MSOS and cable operators is hindering the development of a solid TV broadcasting model in India.

In spite of what was described as an “amazing proliferation of channels” in a very short space of time, there is concern as to whether there is enough money in the Indian market to support continued growth, and how revenues can be fairly distributed. Another concern was over-regulation from the government, which wants to take greater control of the market.

Nonetheless, “India is booming,” affirmed Anurradha Prasad, MD of B.A.G. Films and Media. “People are accumulating more and more buying power, and they are investing in leisure and entertainment.”
