S'pore developer eyes 'pink dollar' via new complex

SINGAPORE: The Lincoln Modern, an exclusive apartment complex, has become one of the first developments to market to the gay community alongside the other usual demographic targets.

Developed by SC Global Developments and marketed by Colliers International, prices at Lincoln Modern start S$1.2 million (US$700,000).

Colliers is working with Fridae.com, a gay and lesbian network, to promote the development to members of Fridae. Fridae organised a viewing for its members in late November and future private events are planned.

According to Colliers International corporate affairs manager Doris Boo, the event in November was very successful, with more than 100 people showing up.

However, Boo said that the Lincoln Modern was not designed specifically for the gay community: "The development is a high-end residential development targeted at trendy, glamorous and well-heeled urbanites.

"By tying up with Fridae to reach the gay and lesbian community, our objective was purely to cover one of the segments identified, i.e. single professionals with high disposable income."

Dr Stuart Koe, CEO of Fridae, said the trend to reach out to the gay community is gathering steam. "Marketers no longer deem this a risky strategy."
