Special Olympics come to Shanghai

SHANGHAI The Special Olympics World Summer Games from October 2 to 11 in Shanghai saw the arrival of more than 10,000 athletes and officials from 165 countries.

This is the first time the Games have been held in China and the second time it has been
held outside of the US.

In the run up to the games, 30 sports venues in Shanghai were renovated with facilities for
the disabled upgraded or added.

The municipal government also provided special training courses to hotel managers and
tourism officials. Beijing will host the Summer Olympic Games in 2008
