Spaanjaars quits Siemens to take up Adidas brief

GREATER CHINA: Aldo Spaanjaars has left his post as Siemens' director of marketing Asia-Pacific to head up Adidas' marketing communications in the Greater China region.

Spaanjaars' appointment is part of a wider initiative to strengthen the sports brand's marketing team in Asia, which includes the apppointment of former Nike executive Erica Kerner as head of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Programme, Adidas China.

Spaanjaars, who joined Siemens in mid-2002, was a founding member of the Xelibri team, which launched the world's first fashion accessory phone.

In 2003, he moved to Shanghai to oversee its regional marketing.

During his stint at Xelibri, the brand was awarded a Silver Lion at Cannes for its launch campaign and last year was named Media's Marketer of the Year.

Kerner, meanwhile, worked at J. Walter Thompson Shanghai until 2003 before taking a year off to work for the Special Olympics developing its China marketing strategy.

She also spent eight years with Nike in numerous roles, including director of international marketing, retail.
