Sony's T Gangadhar to join MEC as Managing Director

MUMBAI - T Gangadhar (pictured), vice-president and head of marketing at Sony unit SET Max has joined MEC as managing director.

As part of the new management structure, Gangadhar (also known as Gangs) will be responsible for the continued business development of the agency and the delivery of communications planning. He will continue to build the MEC brand and team throughout the country. All office general managers and functional heads will report to Gangadhar, who will in turn report to Shubha George, who was earlier MEC’s managing director.

Explaining the move to the media side of the business, Gangs told Campaign India, “My own sense of MEC as an agency has been that of a young, hungry organisation, and that appealed to me. I have never worked on the media side before, but that sense of the unknown, frankly, was part of the excitement. At MEC, my outlook will not be through the micro lens of media but will be more of a holistic brand perspective.”

Joost Dop, CEO, MEC Asia-Pacific, said on Gangs’ appointment: “MEC India is one of our fastest growing and most successful companies in Asia-Pacific. Gangs’ ability to identify consumer insights and his flair for creative ideas coupled with sound business acumen will be a true asset to MEC India as the company continues to grow with new business and existing clients.”

Before his move to Sony, Gangadhar was vice-president, strategic planning, Lowe India, where he looked after the Chennai and Bangalore office. He quit Lowe in 2005 and took a sabbatical for close to nine months before moving to Sony.
