Sony opts for another round as regional media review narrows focus

Despite initial indications that it would select an agency after one round of pitching, Sony has opted to shortlist OMD and MEC in the race for its US$150 million regional media account.

The decision comes after a first phase that also included ZenithOptimedia and Universal McCann. The pitch is the first attempt by Sony to consolidate the region for many years.

A source also pointed out that Sony Pictures had opted out of the ongoing review, which is being managed by London consultancy Billetts International.

It is expected that a final decision will be made during the next two weeks. Separately, a decision is also expected soon on Samsung’s global US$700 million media review, which sees former Sony incumbent Starcom pitching against incumbent MindShare.
