In the last week of February this year, Sony Handycam handed its branding business to M&C Saatchi in China after a three-way pitch.
Sources say that Sony's account is split between a large number of agencies in Malaysia. It is also understood that Sony has a reputation of calling pitches every six months.
A source who didn't want to be named said: "I find it strange that a company like Sony keeps calling a pitch every few months. They have a reputation for not treating their agencies as partners and firing them for the smallest of issues. Not many agencies in Malaysia are interested in working with them."
Reports suggest that Sony has an 80 per cent marketshare in the handycam market in East Malaysia.
